Yea Yea Yea, I know I said the next up in my Yung Gunners series would be J.Cole reppin Tha Ville, but I had to throw a wrench in the order of things with the big homie Lupe finally dropping his LASERS (Love Always Shines Everytime Remember 2 Smile) album after much back and forth with Atlantic Records, imposing their influence on this album. I've been asking around and seem to be getting a lot of responses speaking on how much Atlantic Records threw him off course and how its not "Lupe," not what makes him who he is as an artist and how he has a heavy pop influence incorporated into this album. What most don't realize though is that this is Lupe at his finest, allow me to explain. Lupe is exactly what the game needs as an artist and as a man, the ability to take on an influential big name record label, and still stick to the principles that governs your life and your music is absolutely amazing. He is somehow able to take Atlantic Records' heavy influence (including a track with Trey Songz -__-) and flip it to match his style and musical content. If you compare his lyrical content and message(what truly makes Lupe such a great artist) and compare to albums of old such as Food & Liquor, The Cool, Fahrenheit 1/15 (mixtape), Revenge of the Nerds (mixtape), he never compromises his message, the truth continues to flow from this man's mouth. He may be willing to accept a different flow and genre but when your as lyrically gifted as Lupe Fiasco it only ends up being another beat to rhyme over, just another means to get the message out to the fans. In the words of Dr. Cornel West, "It is the telling of truth that allows the suffering to speak." One thing we can always count on from Lupe Fiasco is that the suffering will always have a voice through him! So next time you put them headphones in and play any tracks from LASERS, try to ignore Atlantic Records' intent to sabotage and allow Lupe to spit some truth into your life. Always remember Love Always Shines Everytime Remember 2 Smile!!!!!!! Enjoy and look out for more in the Yung Gunners series, next up is J.Cole... Prototype Out, PEACE.
***Sidenote: I have the official album and I cannot embed the tracks onto this post due to Atlantic Records' copyrighting privileges over the CD. I will embed a few links from youtube so that you guys can get a small preview before you decide to buy but I STRONGLY SUGGEST YOU GUYS GO OUT AND BUY THIS ALBUM, LETS START A MOVEMENT TO SUPPORT WHATS REAL ABOUT TODAY'S MUSIC INDUSTRY. THIS MAN IS TRULY ONE OF THE LAST OF A DYING BREED.
